Frequently asked questions

Can I schedule an in-person meeting?

Yes, digital accounting doesn't mean meetings must be online. Feel free to schedule an introductory meeting in person - click here. The first consultation is always free of charge.

What kind of advice can I get?

Besides accounting and tax advice, I provide guidance on working as a freelancer or consultant: pros and cons, key considerations for contracts, pricing strategies, and more.

For larger or growth-focused businesses, financial budgeting and reporting are also among my expertise.

What is the net income you can expect as a self-employed service provider?

As a self-employed professional, you’re subject to several types of taxes. Click here to view a simulation of your net income based on a selected daily rate. The table also includes a comparison with an employee’s net salary. For most service providers, this estimate offers a realistic view of your actual take-home pay. Get in touch to analyze your specific situation.

Want to start your own business? How does the collaboration work?

I guide you from A to Z in launching your self-employed career.

  1. Introductory Meeting
We assess whether self-employment is the right fit for you, discussing its advantages and key considerations.
  2. Preparation for Startup
We gather all necessary information to set up your sole proprietorship or company.
  3. Administrative Setup
I handle your registration as a self-employed professional and the incorporation process. You just need to stay on top of your emails and post mail. In case you do not speak Dutch, I recommend using the Google Translate app for post mail, where you can open the camera to scan a document and perform a live translation into your language or English. Keep in mind that the translation accuracy is not 100%, but it will help you with the majority of the content.
  4. Kick-off Meeting
After setup, we go over practical matters and essential do's & don'ts.
  5. Guidance & Follow-Up
I keep you informed of deadlines and necessary actions. I also provide feedback on your accounting and optimization opportunities, while informing you of any legal changes that may impact you.

We review your financials records and tax filings at least once a year. Throughout the year, I ensure all necessary declarations are submitted (e.g., VAT returns, client listings, intra-community listings, etc.). The (mostly quarterly) VAT return itself should not raise too many questions each time, but if I do have any doubts or something is unclear, I will get in touch. During the annual meeting, we review the yearly figures, which is also a great opportunity to catch up.

Should I take any steps before starting as self-employed?

Preferably not.

For example, if you register yourself as self-employed with Acerta, I would still need to review the registration to avoid mistakes and missed optimizations. The registration process itself is not time-consuming.

However, you can already sign contracts or make purchases as a business "in formation" - but it's best to discuss these details in advance.

Is working as a self-employed complicated?

Not really. Once you're well-informed, it becomes second nature. Administrative work is streamlined thanks to digital tools.

If a professional manages your accounting and tax filings, you don't need to worry much.

In our introductory meeting, I'll explain the key differences from being an employee. If you do a little research beforehand, I can confirm, clarify, or add to your findings.

Should I choose a sole proprietorship or a company?

That depends on various factors. If we only consider tax benefits, incorporating a company becomes financially advantageous starting at an annual income of €50,000. Book an introductory meeting to discuss your specific situation.

Do all accountants offer the same service?

In principle, yes - except for specialized sectors.

However, big differences exist behind the scenes:

Do they only do the bare minimum, or do they follow quality procedures and keep them up to date? How much training do they undergo? How passionate are they about accounting and taxation? What networks do they rely on? Do they comply with all professional obligations (which will be more strictly monitored from 2025)? Do they react quickly when something goes wrong with your administration? Some accountants are less accessible than others. Availability is a priority in my services. I also appreciate clear and timely communication from my clients.

Are you a stereotypical boring accountant?

Who knows? Find out in an introductory meeting!
